Keep it rolling

Finally done with 2017, it’s Sunday and we are heading for 2018 in lightning speed. New Year’s Day lands on a Monday this time, which always feels “right”!

I have this thing with numbers; don’t know why. Maybe because I am a drummer and I’ve been programmed to always count in my head. Every bar has four quarter notes, and those just go around in my head when I play music, even when I listen to music. It’s not a bother because it happens in the back of my mind, but it’s always there. When I was learning to read sheet music when I was 16 I even split up the quarter notes between my right and left side. So, the right side is always odd, and the left even. I also have favourite years! Years with odd numbers have for some reason been favourites, but now it’s time to change that – after all, we are only hours away from 2018, which is an even number!

This past year has been a very interesting one; I’ve had some major adventures and had the opportunity to do a lot of traveling. And all the interesting people I have met and all the life-changing experiences in 2017 made it one of the best yet. I’ll be bringing the momentum with me to make sure 2018 will be a great one as well. I won’t say it will be the best yet, simply because I don’t know if it will! I had no idea this time last that the coming year would be life-changing and memorable.

Seeing Instagram-posts all over town with the quote “the best is yet to come” is kind of wearing thin. What I mean is, don’t build something up so much and turn it into something you can’t achieve. Be honest instead and make every day count. I touched on that before in my blog and yes I know Jack Dawson said it. But work with what you have, not with what you can’t yet see. I can’t see into the future (or can I? – cue The X-Files theme) so all I can do is make the day at hand the best, maximise my opportunities and stop putting unnecessary pressure on myself. But still, set goals and make great plans. The experiences and memories will follow!

A couple of ridiculous memories from 2017 are when I got to ride an elephant, stroke a tiger, fly in a military Black Hawk helicopter, stand on the same spot in Corinth as the Apostle Paul, and many more. It has been a blessing and I hope to make 2018 count as well! Happy New Year out there and be blessed!
